Apple Butter Bars

Apple Butter Bars

Mostly We’ve been stuck in a morning breakfast rut lately, so last week, I decided to concoct some new breakfast bars in hopes of bringing excitement and enthusiasm to our 7 a.m. weekday dining experience. Or, you know, at least distract kids from crying and moaning and laying their heads on the table. Have you ever had apple butter? It’s so tasty. The smell, oh my goodness. It makes you bring up an apple garden and family all in one sniff. Apple butter is like a thick and flavorful apple sauce.

After joining my crumbly oat mixture, I pressed most of it into the bottom of a square baking pan. Then I cubed a big Honeycrisp apple, stirred in a few apple butter, and spread the resulting apple goodness over the crust. At last, I crumbled the reserved oat mixture all over the top.

The toughest part of making these Healthy Apple Butter Bars was waiting for them to bake, and the great smell arising from the oven didn’t exactly help things. But hold up, I did, and once the apple butter was bubbly, and the oat blend was brilliant, I knew that my consistent quality had been compensated. I let the bars rest fair long sufficient that they wouldn’t completely break once I cut into them, and after that, it was finally time for a taste!

And the verdict? Good. I have to tell you that I may have felt slightly giddy that these breakfast bars were filled with so much good stuff while pretty much tasting like apple crisp. They’re wonderful for breakfast, but they’d also make a wholesome bite or a healthy dessert. And nobody will ever imagine that they’re not loaded with butter and sugar.

So whip up some Apple Butter Bars to make mornings just a little less painful. Keep them on hand to curb those afternoon appetites, Or heck, feed them to your trick-or-treaters before they head out tomorrow night. After all, goblins and ghosts and Larry Culpepper Dr Pepper Man (my ever-inventive 8-year-old) might not be able to scarf down very many sweet bars in case they’re as of now got a number of these wholesome breakfast bars in their stomachs.
